Helpful Tips to Improve Work-From-Home Work-Life Balance

Work life balance is a goal everyone wants to achieve. Being stuck mostly at home and having adjusted working from home in the last months, now we want to have a healthy balance of work and home life. Having the ability to enjoy time with family and not be constantly bothered by work is hard to get when you work from home. Here are some few helpful tips to achieve a work-from-home work-life balance:

Plan out your day and week

There is no better way to separate different tasks or errands than alloting time for each. This is highly applicable when planning your family time throughout the week. You can schedule some movie or family dinners during the days you do not have much on your plate at work. That way you do not constantly shuffle from work and family time.

Set a time for work and stick to it

Having a set time for work programs your brain to fully focus during those time. This is also helpful on keeping you organise and efficient during workhours. Because you know that you only have a few hours in a day to finish your tasks. Now that everyone is working from home and expected to stay mostly indoors, it is so much easier to contact you and get you to work on something. Be firm on your work hours and do it first thing in the morning during your work hours instead.

Let your family know about your working hours

Being at home and easily accessible to everyone in the family can be tough. You kids wanting to play or your spouse asking a favour from you are minute things that will set off your work time. Since you spent some time with family during work, you may tend to extend your work hours to get more things done. So instead of doing that, inform your family when you’re at work even when you are home.

Have a designated work area

Having a work area tricks your brain that you are in full work mode once you sit on that home office desk or even at the dinning table. It is also helpful when family members not to bother you when they see you sitting down on your work desk. Setting up your work desk or sitting down to start work also mimics the pattern you do when you get to your office desk and starts work.

Whether or not your work calls for you to work from home, it is always best to have a small space intended for work station, studying area for the kids or simply a place where you can do admin stuff at home like paying the bills and keeping everything in order.
