Why You Should Invest in Tagum City
Tagum City is the capital of Davao del Norte. In terms of economic activity, it is dominated by the agriculture sector. In the recent years, the City has become one of Mindanao’s fastest-rising urban cities. Here are some reasons why Tagum is attracting investors.
Strategic Location
Tagum City is situated at the crossroads between the rural areas of Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley and the urban Metro Davao. With a well-developed infrastructure, the city manages to export goods. With the influx of people from the countryside areas, the rise of human resources has also remarkably helped in the revenue generation of the city.
Accessibility
The city is accessible via air, land, and sea travel. It is approximately 1.5 hours’ drive away from Francisco Bangoy International Airport, Mindanao’s busiest airport. Land travel to Tagum is easy via three major road systems: Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway, the Davao-Mati (Davao Oriental) road, and the Tagum-Kapalong Road. Interisland ferries also connect the city to many areas in the Philippines via the seaport in Metro Davao.
Competitiveness
In this year’s National Competitiveness Council (NCC) ranking on the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI), Tagum City ranked as the ninth most competitive component city in the Philippines. It ranked fourth in infrastructure (existing road network and health infrastructure), 16th in economic dynamism (size and growth of the local economy and capacity to generate employment), and 24th in government efficiency (economic governance score in the Local Governance Performance Management System and security). These rankings show that the city continues to be an attractive business destination for investments.
Low Cost of Doing Business
The cost of doing business in Tagum City is comparatively lower than in other major cities in the Philippines, making it more attractive to investors. Rates of public utilities and local communication, labor, raw materials, rentals for commercial spaces and accommodations, and other business needs are also cheaper here.
Infrastructure and Utilities
The city proper is well connected to the various barangays of the City via a 444.131-km local road network. As being mainly agricultural, these farm-to-market roads are essential in making the transfer of goods and agricultural products more convenient.
Various companies are operating in Tagum to provide the City’s electricity, water, and telecommunications needs. The City’s electrical power requirements are provided by Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative (DANECO). Water is supplied by Tagum Water District. The City is also served by CRUZTELCO (PLDT), DATELCO (Philcom), ITALTEL (DOTC), and the SMART and Globe Networks.
With these reasons and more, it is no surprise that Tagum City continues to attract more investors.
